Muta

Muta comes from Mʉ̂-Tâ, a word whose root belongs to the Grassfields Bamileke languages of western Cameroon. We kept the sound and wrote it simply: Muta.

It is a name that carries a precise origin, not a borrowed aesthetic. It says where the brand comes from before saying what it sells.

What we do

Graphic pieces: garment-dyed heavy cotton t-shirts, sweatshirts, caps, sneakers, and accessories. Relaxed cuts, materials that age well, and prints that say something.

We work in small batches and add pieces regularly rather than releasing entire collections twice a year.

How our pieces are made

We prefer to be clear about this.

Most of our clothing is produced on demand: the blank garment is manufactured by a producer, then printed or embroidered with our design by a partner workshop in Europe or the United States, depending on your delivery address. This means no overproduction, no unsold inventory, and no destruction of unsold goods.

Our cotton canvas pouches are made in Portugal and delivered with Viarco pencils coded with ColorADD, a system that allows colorblind people to identify colors.

Our tie-dye t-shirts are hand-dyed: each piece is unique and none are exactly identical to the photo.

Where we are

Muta is based in Portugal and ships throughout the European Union as well as to the United States.
